DA-800 Density Meters
The Kem DA-800 series benchtop density meters, thanks to their modern and attractive design, are designed to take up minimal space on the laboratory bench.
Programming and operation are completely managed from an external workstation (WS-PC or WS-TABLET), allowing the density meter to be placed under a fume hood and connected to the workstation via LAN cable or wirelessly when analyzing toxic or malodorous samples.
The “WS-PC” can manage up to four density meters simultaneously with a single software program, while the “WS-TABLET” can manage up to two.
MAIN FEATURES
- Measuring principle: quartz oscillating tube “U – tube” (measurement of the oscillation frequency), “Peltier” temperature control
- Built-in camera for easy detection of any bubbles in the cell during measurement
- Software CFR21 part 11 – data integrity.
- Viscosity correction, to minimize density reading errors due to highly viscous samples.
- Reduced measurement time thanks to the “Stability 4” parameter, an evolution of conventional algorithms, which makes it possible to achieve reading stability in approximately 10 seconds on the fourth decimal place (Kem patent).
- Connection to 30-position AS 8030 autosampler.
- Highly reliable, Kyoto Electronics Manufacturing Co., LTD (KEM) is the only Japanese manufacturer that complies with ISO17034 standards. KEM oscillating capillary density meters are calibrated to international MRA (Mutual Recognition Arrangement) standards and meet the requirements of ISO17025 and JCSS (Japan Calibration Service System), which are traceable to international standards worldwide.
AUTOMATION, SAMPLING AND CELL CLEANING
Depending on the number of samples to be analyzed, the cleaning required to remove the sample from the cell at the end of the analysis and the level of automation required, the DA800 series density meters can be equipped with different sampling and cleaning units:
- AP – AIR PUMP: Sampling and measurement are performed automatically using a membrane pump with exceptional chemical resistance, which is then cleaned and dried. Maximum sample viscosity is up to approximately 1,500 mPa.
- SA2 – SEMIAUTOMATIC 2 LIQUIDS: Sampling, measurement, cleaning (up to two different solvents), and cell drying are performed automatically without operator intervention.
Maximum sample viscosity up to approximately 1,000 mPa. - SA3 – SEMIAUTO 3 LIQUIDS: Sampling, measurement, cleaning (up to three different solvents), and cell drying are performed automatically without operator intervention.
Maximum sample viscosity up to approximately 1,000 mPa. - PP – PERISTALTIC PUMP: Sampling and measurement are performed automatically using a peristaltic pump with adjustable speed, followed by cleaning and drying. Maximum sample viscosity up to approximately 1,000 mPa.
- PU – PURGE UNIT: Sampling and cleaning are performed manually by injecting the sample and cleaning solvents into the cell using a syringe. Drying of the cell is automatic using a purge pump.
- AS – 8030: 30-position autosampler for 20 mL vials. The density meter model designed to work with the AS – 8030 is the PU – PURGE UNIT, as the autosampler can be equipped with 4 different integrable units for sampling, cleaning, and drying the cell.

AS-8030 Autosampler
The KEM model AS – 8030 autosampler, thanks to an ingenious design designed to integrate the densimeter with the autosampler itself, allows you to save at least 50% of space on the laboratory bench and to manage the entire system through a single external workstation.
MAIN FEATURES
- 30-position sample holder disc for 20 mL vials.
- Cell pressurization function to prevent bubble formation (FU1 and FU2).
- Reduction of cleaning and drying times between samples thanks to the injection of air together with that of solvents during washing, with significant savings in solvents and consequent economic and environmental benefits, as well as increased analytical productivity.
- Automatic sample recovery after measurement, a useful option for expensive samples that can be recovered and reintroduced into the vial after analysis as density analysis is non-destructive (FU1 and FU2).
AUTOMATION, SAMPLING AND CELL CLEANING
The AS – 8030 auto sampler can be equipped with 4 different sampling and cleaning units (FU – FLOW UNIT):
- FU2 – 3 LIQUIDS: pressure sampling with cell pressurization, to prevent the formation of bubbles in the cell during the sampling phase (e.g. volatile samples such as diesel, gasoline, solvents, etc.). Automatic sample recovery after measurement, useful for expensive samples that can thus be recovered and reintroduced into the vial as density analysis is non-destructive. Washing with up to 3 different solvents. Equipped with a high-flow DRYING pump to speed up the cell drying operation. Maximum sample viscosity up to approximately 50,000 mPa.
- FU3 – 2 LIQUIDS: Aspiration sampling. Washing with up to 2 different solvents. Equipped with a high-flow DRYING pump to speed up cell drying. Maximum sample viscosity up to approximately 1,000 mPa.
- FU4 (*): Aspiration sampling. Analysis between samples without the use of washing solvents, performed by alternately introducing air and sample into the cell before measurement to clean/flush the cell itself. Required sample quantity: 20 mL. Maximum sample viscosity: approximately 1,000 mPa.
(*): patent pending.
